Breakthrough: A Composer’s Journey

A composer’s experiences of inspiration, creativity, doubt, frustration and perseverance when writing new music.

The composer experiences the spark of inspiration in the form of a three note melody. Inside her mind, melodies are born and sung in succession. As the ideas swirl about in her mind, they become numerous and overwhelming. Inspiration turns to agitation. Agitation turns to defeat.

Out of nowhere, inspiration strikes again! New ideas begin to form… progress! A hopeful and eager mood returns to the composer. Unfortunately, it doesn’t last long. The new idea dissolves, as does the composer’s motivation. Accepting the writer’s block, the composer turns to a break from writing. In an attempt to free the mind, she takes a journey through the subconscious.

With the mind free from the frustration of writer’s block, clarity returns. The unrealized music takes form in the composer’s mind. She eagerly makes her journey back to the piano, and begins to write feverishly. The overwhelming joy and motivation culminates in the full realization of the newly composed music, and the composer joyously celebrates her new creation.
